AKRON, Ohio (Aug. 10, 2010) – Goodyear announced today that the tiremaker will issue a supply of right rear tires with a special sidewall look to help commemorate the 50th running of the Goodyear Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil Aug. 11-14 at Knoxville Raceway.

The tires with the special look on the sidewall will be issued at Knoxville only.

“It is a very special event in the history of sprint car racing and we recognize that,” said Goodyear Racing marketing manager Justin Fantozzi. “To showcase the event logo on the sidewall is just a small part of what we are doing in recognition of the 50th.”

Goodyear is the Official Tire of Knoxville Raceway and is the exclusive tire supplier for the rear wheel tire positions on the track’s weekly 410 sprint car class. The 50th Goodyear Knoxville Nationals, which annually attracts the biggest names in sprint car racing to compete, is a standalone event and is not part of any touring series.

The four nights of racing at Knoxville routinely draw about 50,000 race fans to a city with a population of about 7,700.

“Fans are always grabbing the tires left after the battle of a sprint car race” Fantozzi said. “I can’t image the flood from the stands after this one looking for the special sidewalls. The machines and the drivers make this the biggest sprint car race annually, but the fans make it legendary.”
