From Lawrenceburg Speedway
It ended up being a fitting night for Evansville, Indiana’s John Memmer. Memmer had already won 2 features in 2010 at Lawrenceburg and he added number 3 as he won the 7th running of the Dick Gaines Memorial. In victory lane, Memmer was very appreciative for the history of the sprint car racing including sprint car legend Dick Gaines who the race had been named after. The third win was definitely not as easy for Memmer as the first 2 had been. Memmer would take the green flag from the ninth position and have to work his way to the front. Chad Boespflug coming off of a heat race win would lead the first 4 laps until Blake Fitzpatrick swept underneath him and took the lead on lap 5. Fitzpatrick would pull away as we have seen him do in the past. By lap 23, he had almost a half straightaway lead. On lap 23, Fitzpatrick’s right rear tire would explode ending his chances for a victory. When the green flag flew again, Memmer would assume the lead after working his way up to second. He would lead the final 7 laps on his way to third 3rd win of the 2010 season. Series point leader, Andrew Elson would finish second, followed by Brett Burdette, JJ Hughes, and Brady Short. Heat race winners were Elson, Burdette, and Boespflug. Andrew Elson continues to lead the Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Point Standings, with John Memmer not far behind. The Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars return to the track on Saturday September 4th.
