Barnes Bests ASCS Northwest at Grays Harbor!

By Stacy Verrall

ELMA, Wash. (September 5, 2010) – You know you’re a hard core racer when you look down at your watch minutes after the birth of your second born child and wonder if you still have time to make it to a race that evening in another state.

That’s exactly what Jayme Barnes joked about in the winner’s circle (in regards to the previous ASCS Northwest race in Oregon) after picking up his first ASCS Northwest win of the season at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Barnes started on the pole and surged to a commanding lead on the first lap, making a statement from the first green flag that the 7n-Henderson Motorsports-All Points Petroleum-Island Muffler and Brake-Redline Oil-Doyle’s Harley Davidson was going to be untouchable tonight.

Second place Henry Van Dam was Barne’s closest competitor, but just didn’t have what it was going to take to be any sort of threat for the lead. However, Van Dam’s runner up position was virtually uncontested.

Shawn Rice owned third for most of the race until Jason Solwold snuck by him in the last laps claiming the final podium finish with Rice settling for fourth. Solwold also picked up the Travis Rutz Hard Charger Award after charging from twelfth to third.

At one point, there was a nice three and four way battle for fifth between Solwold, Rick Fauver, Tim Kaeding and Roger Crockett until lap 14 when Crockett’s car slowed to a stop in turn four sending him to the back of the pack on the restart. Kaeding wheeled his way up to fourth, but pulled into the infield after allegedly making contact with another car near the end of the race. Fauver would end up finishing fifth at the night’s end.

Jared Peterson and Mitch Olson crossed the stripe in sixth and seventh. Bergman was up to fourth at one point, but fell to eighth. Logan Forler was ninth and Crockett charged his way back up through the pack for a top ten finish.

It was a great night for the rookies with T.J. Hartman winning a packed heat (Barnes, Kaeding, Olson) and Trey Starks showing off his moves as he stole the B main win from J.J. Dishneau in the final laps.

Logan Forler, Jared Peterson and T.J. Hartman topped the night’s heat race action.
