(SEPTEMBER 14, 2010, PERRIS, CA) Major League Sprint Car racing returns to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, September 18th, with the running of the 15th Annual Jack Kindoll Hall of Fame Classic featuring the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. The USAC Ford Focus Midgets and the USAC Western Dirt Young Guns will also be on the triple-header program. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00. Saturday is a military night at The PAS and any current military member with proper id will be admitted free.
Saturday is also the final night of The PAS School Supply Drive. Any fan who brings $5.00 in new school supplies will get a free ticket to a race in March of 2011. All of the school supplies will be given to the Family Service Association of Redlands who will donate them to needy families.
Due to the diligent work of Chris Holt, Saturday’s event will carry more than $5,000.00 in extra purse money. Included in the added money will be $500.00 for the Billy Wilkerson Fast Time Award. The Walt James three-lap trophy dash for the four fast qualifiers will carry a purse of over $1,100.00. There will be a $300.00 Hard Charger Award, $1,500 in main event bonuses (including $700.00 extra to the winner) and more.
The race is named after the late Jack Kindoll and is a salute to him and other National Sprint Car Hall of Famers from Southern California. A car owner, racing official and innovator, Kindoll owned cars won three CRA championships (1976, 1977 and 1979) with fellow Hall of Famer Jimmy Oskie behind the wheel.
In the previous 14 running of the Kindoll Classic, only one driver has more than one victory. Ventura, California’s Cory Kruseman, who is currently tied for third with Yorba Linda, California’s Blake Miller in Amsoil USAC/CRA points, has won the race no less than five times! Other past winners who will be in action on Saturday include Yorba Linda’s Rip Williams (1997), Rickie Gaunt of Torrance, California (2004), Norco, California’s Tony Jones (2006) and 2009 winner Mike Spencer of Temecula, California. The complete list of Kindoll Classic winners is at the end of this release.
Seeking his third straight Amsoil USAC/CRA title, Spencer, a Cal Poly Pomona engineering graduate, has a commanding 163-point lead over Santa Maria, California’s “Showtime” Danny Sheridan in the championship point standings. Kruseman and Miller are 65 points behind Sheridan with Yorba Linda’s Matt Mitchell rounding out the top five.
