Sarver, PA-September 23, 2010- With just three points currently separating leader Jason Meyers and Joey Saldana in the World of Outlaws championship standings, with 20-time series champion Steve Kinser third, 48 markers back, with four-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz fourth, 115 markers out of the top spot and only eight races remaining entering this weekend, the Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway will play a pivotal role in helping determine the 2010 series titlist.
When the series rolls into Lernerville on Saturday, September 25, just seven races will remain on the calendar as the best sprint car drivers in the world will make their final stop of the year in Western Pennsylvania and their first in the fall at the always racy high-banked four-tenths-mile since 2001.
Of the title contenders, Steve Kinser has by far had the most success at Lernerville Speedway. He has made 65 starts with the World of Outlaws at the always racy four-tenths-mile dating back 1979, which is nearly more starts at the track than the other three titles contenders combined. The Hall of Famer has racked up 17 wins over the years at the track, including in the World of Outlaws debut at Lernerville in 1979. He has been victorious in 16 different seasons at the track and has over 50 Top-10 finishes and over 40 Top-Five performances.
Jason Meyers, who leads the points, won the Commonwealth Clash in 2008, when the event was held in the spring. He was victorious at Lernerville for the first time in 2000 with the Gumout Series. The native of Clovis, California has nine Top-10 finishes in his career with the World of Outlaws at the track, with six of those being Top-Five performances including in both starts this season. He has finished ninth or better in each of his last seven starts at Lernerville dating back to 2008.
Joey Saldana, who is currently second in points, holds the track record at Lernerville Speedway, a mark he set in 2002 during time trials. He won his firsts A-Feature event at the track in July in the finale of the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30’s. The second generation driver scored a preliminary feature win at the track in 2005. Saldana has 14 career Top-10 finishes at Lernerville with seven of those being Top-Five runs.
Donny Schatz, the four-time and defending World of Outlaws champion, has three career wins at Lernerville Speedway. He claimed the overall title in the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup this past July with finishes second and fourth in the Twin-30 laps feature. He has 17 career Top-10 finishes at the track dating back to 1999, with eight of those being Top-Five finishes. The North Dakota native has racked up 13 straight Top-10 finishes at Lernerville.
