September 29, 2010 – Brian Brown and the FVP #21 team will head to Riverside International Speedway to try to claim the winner’s prize of a guitar at the 2nd Annual “Rock ‘N Roll 50” in West Memphis, Arkansas this weekend. The Grain Valley, Missouri driver was down on luck last weekend in events in Jacksonville, Illinois and Wheatland, Missouri, despite having a fast car under him.
Last weekend started on Friday night at Jacksonville Speedway’s “Shaheen’s Blast from the Past”. He would surge from 8th to 4th in the heat, and from 6th to 4th in the dash. “There was definitely a good field of cars over at Jacksonville,” he says. “We were able to move forward in the heat and the dash, which was good.”
The dash finish set him up outside of row two for the main event, and while in position for another strong finish, a mechanical problem arose. “We were able to settle into third there the first few laps, and then there was a yellow,” says Brian. “I really felt like we had a car that was capable of winning the race. On the restart, we went through one and two, and broke a U-joint down the back straightaway.”
With foot, ankle and leg injuries related to U-joint breakages the last few years, Brian considers himself fortunate and is taking corrective action. “Normally, I would be really disappointed, but I was fortunate to leave with my legs healthy,” he admits. “From now on, we’ll have a Butlerbuilt Kevlar shield on, and I would like to thank Brian and Jeannie Butler for that.”
Brian arrived at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland with high hopes. He was able to beat the Lucas Oil ASCS National series there in 2006, and would take a shot again. “The passing points with ASCS is just a lottery, especially with 61 cars,” he says of the format. “We drew a five and were on the pole of the fifth heat. That’s not the best place to be. You’d almost like to be back a row or two. We won the heat, and we were still back in the thirteenth spot in points.”
Moving forward from inside row seven in the feature, Brian found himself competing for a fifth place finish at the end. It was not to be. “We honestly had a fifth or sixth place car,” he says. “We weren’t too stellar in the feature. We were able to sneak by Jason (Johnson) in one and two on the last lap. He got into the back of me in three and four, and turned us around. We got spun out. It was one of those deals. Sometimes you’re the windshield; sometimes you’re the bug. Next time, maybe I’ll be the windshield.”
Brian is ready to head to the Memphis area this weekend. “We’re really excited to go down there and be a part of the ‘Rock ‘N Roll 50’,” he says. “Tony Bruce does a great job with his races, and there’s an awesome Gibson guitar they’re giving the winner. It would look really good in my office.”
He will also meet up with some great supporters. “We have a great partner down there in FSR Radiators,” says Brian. “It will be good to catch up with Garry (Bell) and the guys. That place can be an exciting bullring to run, and we’ll be looking for a couple of strong runs.”

Brian’s Q&A
Jeremiah Bell asks: What young drivers are you watching that remind you of yourself?
Brian answers: There are a lot of young drivers that are very good. Just in my area, Jonathan Cornell, Josh Fisher, Chad Humston and Dustin Selvage come to mind. I’m sure I’m leaving a couple out. The sprint car community is in very good hands for the future. You want to see them get better, but you don’t want to see them take money out of your pocket! Anything we can do to help them, we do.
