MECHANICSBURG, PA–Lance Dewease scored his 75th career victory at Williams Grove Speedway with an impressive performance in Friday night’s 25-lap sprint car feature.
Dewease started 12th in the 24-car field and made a strong move on the first lap to get himself into contention. He was fourth with one lap down, then took third place entering the first turn on lap two.
Doug Dodson led the first two laps before Aaron Ott took over. Dewease was second on lap four and began to close on the leader.
Dewease led at the line on lap five, but Ott powered back in front and continued to set the pace.
Dewease slid in front of Ott through turns one and two on lap twelve and this time he immediately began to pull away.
The five-time track champion cruised to a 5.91 margin of victory over Ott at the finish.
The winner earned $4250 including lap prize and bonus money.
Dewease became the division’s only five-time winner at the Grove this season.
Ott settled for second place for the third time this year.
Donnie Kreitz came from the eighth starting position to finish third. Chad Laytron came from tenth to fourth and newly crowned track champion Greg Hodnett completed the top five after an outstanding run that began in the 19th starting position.
Dodson, Cory Haas, Alan Krimes, Justin Henderson and Steve Buckwalter rounded out the top ten.
Sprint car heats went to Henderson, Dodson and Haas. There were 24 entries.
Kevin Nouse started twelfth, took the lead at the half way point of the 20-lap 358-sprint feature, then held off a furious late race charge by Pat Cannon to score his first victory of the season.
Cannon finished second followed by Chris Arnold, Tim Wagaman and Glenndon Forsythe.
Heats for the 29 cars went to Brie Hershey, Wagaman and Scott Geesey. The consolation race was won by Niki Young.
