Lane’s Yamaha Sponsors Rookie of the Year Award for Empire Super Sprints

From Dean Reynolds

SYRACUSE, NY – The name of Mal Lane goes down in the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints’ (ESS) history books.  The former six time champion of the 28 year old organization still sits second on the all-time win list at 36 and if there was an ESS Hall of Fame he would be inducted in the first class.

Along with his wife Cindy, they are owners of Lane’s Yamaha located in Watkins Glen, NY.  For over 37 years Lane’s Yamaha provides a full line of motorcycles, sport bikes, ATV’s, both new and used along with all your accessories.  Even though Mal Lane has long hung up his helmet the Lane’s Yamaha name has been involved with ESS in a sponsorship role for several years.

First, Lane’s sponsored the hard charger award at each event and also provided a point fund at the annual awards banquet.  After a few years off, ESS is proud to have the Lane’s name and logo back with the title sponsorship of the Rookie of the Year award.  The driver chosen to have the best rookie season by the ESS board of directors and officials will walk away with a cool $500 cash.

The 2010 racing season saw ESS showcase what was call the “Young Guns”.  This year produced one of the most talented crop of young chauffeurs in the history of the club.  Drivers such as Kevin Ward Jr., Zach Weigand, Shayne Ely, Devin Caron, Dylan Swiernik, Tyler Rice and others were in the pits at most of the ESS sanctioned events.  Not only did these drivers learn the ropes of a full blown 360 sprint car but they excelled

The annual awards banquet is being held on Saturday evening, November 20th at the traditional location of the Holiday Inn, Carrier Circle in East Syracuse, NY.  On this night, a very talented teenager will be crowned Lane’s Yamaha Rookie of the Year.
