The 2011 USAC Regional Midget Series at the Indianapolis Speedrome will receive support from Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) under a cooperative agreement which will involve numerous opportunities for participation by IUPUI students working alongside USAC officials and staff.

Management and promotion of nine races at the southeast Indianapolis oval are involved as USAC continues its long association with its most active track in terms of total events since USAC’s inception in 1956.

IUPUI will coordinate involvement by students from the university who will have opportunities to work in a number of capacities associated with the events. The participating students will have the opportunity to enroll either for internship credits or as part of a directed study course at IUPUI.

Professor Pete Hylton, IUPUI Motorsports Director will be responsible for the overall coordination of involvement by IUPUI faculty and students in the project. Student Services Assistant Dean, Terri Talbert-Hatch will coordinate participating student interns. Students from all areas of the university will be eligible to participate, based on availability of positions.

James Spink, USAC Director of Developmental Series and Jason Smith, Senior VP of Race Operations will be the USAC contacts for this series and will approve any initiatives proposed by IUPUI before implementation.

The exact participation activities for IUPUI will be determined by USAC and IUPUI officials during continuing discussion. However, based on preliminary discussions, opportunities for IUPUI Students to be involved, working alongside USAC officials and staff, may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following: Technical; Journalism/Public Relations; Marketing/Promotion; Graphic Design; Media and miscellaneous other facets.

The series debuts May 25 and includes races June 1, 15, 22 and 29, July 6, 20 and 29.
