In 2010, the Bay Cities Racing Association was scheduled to compete on the Wednesday night before the Gold Cup at the famed Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Unfortunately, rain forced cancellation of that event. This year, Midgets return to Chico for the Thursday night segment of the event and also add Friday night of the Mini Gold Cup in March.
BCRA was able to acquire 29 entries in its other race at Silver Dollar Speedway in August. Now, co-sanctioning with USAC, hopes are to get more than 30 cars to these events.
“I’m very pleased to be working with USAC to promote Midget racing in California,” says BCRA President David Prickett. “We can only grow if we all work together.”
In 2009, BCRA and USAC joined for several events on dirt and pavement, with the most successful being the fall race at King’s Speedway in Hanford, which drew 27 cars.
“We need to work together to make the sport survive,” says Tommy Hunt, Director of Competition for the USAC Western States Division. “Midget racing is dying and its time we did something.”
BCRA will also return to Silver Dollar for a stand alone event Friday June 10, part of a two-day deal followed up Saturday June 11 at Placerville Speedway.
