From J&J
McKENZIE, TN (Feb. 9) – Luch Monte, Ben Atkinson, and Jamie Veal raced their way to Sprint car victories in Australia over the weekend in J&J’s while two-time defending All-Star champion Tim Shaffer won the 2011 All-Star opener in Florida.
ALL-STAR CIRCUIT OF CHAMPIONS – OCALA
After the 2011 O’Reilly All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint car series opener at Screven Motor Speedway fell victim to rain, last Friday night’s event at Ocala (Fla.) Speedway served as a reminder of how dominant Tim Shaffer and the CH Motorsports team have been the past couple of years.
Shaffer led all 25 laps behind the wheel of the No. 83 Kistler-powered J&J to earn his sixth straight All-Star triumph, dating back to August 2010. The victory was his 11th win in the last 13 All-Star races and 36th All-Star victory of his career.
Shaffer was joined in the top-four by young Pennsylvania driver, Aaron Ott, who steered the No. 25 J&J to a fourth-place finish. David Gravel, last year’s Ohio Speedweek Champion, raced the No. 89g J&J to a ninth place finish. Tony Stewart Racing’s Donny Schatz kicked off the night by turning the fastest lap in qualifying aboard the TSR No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevy J&J.
AUSTRALIA – BSA Sprintcar All Star Series
Jamie Veal used a late-race pass to secure the victory last Saturday night in Round 6 of the Fire Service Plus – BSA Sprintcar All Star Series at Tolmer Speedway. Veal, who started second, raced the No. V35 SWI Engineering sponsored J&J around early leader Mark Caurso and scored the win.
PERTH MOTORPLEX
It was a Monte Motorsport show this past weekend at Perth Motorplex. Luch Monte won the main event after his teammate, Steve Lines, led a number of laps early on. Monte raced the Monte Motorsport No. 17 J&J Miracle Recreation Equipment sponsored J&J to victory after a spirited battle with Lines.
Lines, who is currently a contracted driver in the World Series Sprintcars, was in town in advance of the WSS events at Perth later in February.
“We came out to get a little bit better,” said the driver of the No. 7 Monte Motorsport J&J. “Hopefully we can be up on the podium again…I think we learned a lot here tonight.”
TYREPOWER SYDNEY SPEEDWAY
Ben Atkinson added to his lead in the Sydney Sprintcar Premiership by scoring another victory in the 30-lap feature at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway. Atkinson steered Gary Rush Racing’s No. 2 Pick N Payless J&J into the lead with a strong move around the outside in turn four. The victory was his third at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway this season.
