TULSA, Okla. (May 5, 2011) – The Century Flood that has been ravaging the Midwest and Mid-South in recent days has proven too much for the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by K&N Filters National series, as Saturday night’s scheduled Rock ‘N Roll 50 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, AR, has been postponed.
A possible makeup date for the lone 50-lapper on the Lucas Oil ASCS National schedule is under discussion between TBJ Promotions, Riverside promoter Clayton Allen and ASCS officials.
While the track is believed to be in condition to race on, extensive flooding that has wreaked traffic havoc and is only expected to worsen forced the decision to postpone the popular event.
“As much as I hate to postpone the race, it’s the only reasonable thing we can do at this point,” explained Tony Bruce, Jr., of TBJ Promotions. “With the travel difficulties that so many people will have just getting to West Memphis, it’s just way too much to ask of the teams and fans that were planning on traveling a great distance.”
A significant portion of I-40 between Little Rock and West Memphis, an artery that numerous fans and teams rely upon, was under water in both directions by late Thursday. Redirected traffic was delayed for hours, a situation that likely won’t change in the next several days.
While the Lucas Oil ASCS portion of Saturday’s card at Riverside has been postponed, Clayton Allen announced that a weekly card consisting of Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, Modifieds, Stock Car and 600 Micros will still take place on Saturday night.
Tickets ordered on-line for Saturday night’s Rock ‘N Roll 50 will be automatically refunded within the next 24 hours. Those that purchased tickets at Thursday’s car show can contact TBJ Promotions at tony@tbjpromotions.com for refund information.
With the postponement of Saturday’s card, the next scheduled event on the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by K&N Filters National slate is Saturday night, June 4, at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, AR.
