“AN EVENING WITH DAVID HESMER” IS SPRINT CAR 101 – THIRD THURSDAY SERIES PROGRAM FOR JUNE AT THE SPRINT CAR MUSEUM

By Bob Baker

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (May 30, 2011) – Four-time Knoxville Raceway 360-cubic-inch sprint car champion David Hesmer of Marshalltown will take center stage on Thursday evening, June 16, at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum in Knoxville as he is the featured guest at the next “Sprint Car 101” Third Thursday Series program. The free and open-to-the-public forum, entitled “An Evening with David Hesmer,” will be held from 7 until 9 p.m. on the museum’s second floor and it will honor the 65-time ‘360’ feature winner at Knoxville Raceway. Veteran announcer and Speed TV reporter Tony Bokhoven of Pella will emcee the educational and entertaining session, which will cover David’s successful racing career and life.

According to museum curator Tom Schmeh, “I am really pleased that David has agreed to be a part of this series, as I think sprint car racing fans in central Iowa want to learn more about his life and what has made him successful, on- and off-the-track. It would appear that family commitment and pre-race preparation would be a major part of the mix that led to his track titles in 1988, ’97, ’98 and ‘99. But I would hope that we would also learn about his mini-sprint racing days and about his life in racing retirement. As always, we are also going to allow audience members the opportunity to come forward and tell some David Hesmer stories of their own. Finally, I would like to thank Tony Bokhoven for agreeing to be our guest interviewer on the night of Thursday, June 16.”
