– ALGER, Wash. (June 19) – Tommy Tarlton summed up his weekend with a laugh and a shrug of the shoulders.

“It went from starting in the front to crashing and starting in the back, then blowing up,” he said. “My weekend cascaded downward.”

Tarlton started off the weekend well by finishing second on Thursday in the first of the three-day 40th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash. That was the bright spot as Friday was marred when his top 10 went upside as he did in a vicious crash.

The Easton, Calif., native still entered Saturday’s finale locked into the feature with the 13th-most points. He started the 40-lap, $40,000-to-win main event on the inside of the seventh row, but quickly worked his way into the top 10.

However, about 15 laps into the race, Tarlton was caught up in someone else’s wreck and he slid into the accident.

“I was collected and it broke part of my wing off,” he said. “Also, I got a flat tire and went to the work area.”

The crew replaced the tire and pushed Tarlton back onto the track, where he restarted in the back. Less than two laps later he returned to the infield when a rod broke in the engine.

“We had speed so that was kind of neat,” he said. “We were fast, just not a good result.”

Tarlton returns to California to race on Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville with the Ocean Sprints and he’s scheduled to compete on Saturday at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in Hanford with the King of the West Sprint Car Series.
