Anderson Primed for Maiden WSS Assault

By Daniel Powell

Since making his Sprintcar debut nearly 10 years ago Grant Anderson has contested sporadic rounds of the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship, but for the 2011/12 season; he has committed to the full schedule and signed on as a contracted driver.

The WSS Championship is the premier contest for Sprintcars within Australia and Anderson is now focused on giving it his all in his quest to be a front running contender.

“Our team certainly hasn’t signed up to World Series to just make up the numbers, as we are going out there with the intentions of running at the front and nothing else,” the Albury (NSW) based racer stated. “In past seasons we’ve always been competitive whenever we’ve run with the World Series guys and now this is my best opportunity to do it on a consistent basis.”

Anderson, who last season finished fourth in the Australian Championship, and his family run Anderson Motorsport team have certainly left no stone unturned in preparations for their maiden full-time foray into the WSS Championship. Strengthening their season campaign is the acquisition of brand-new Foster built cars, along with promising developments with their engines and also securing the services of a full-time World of Outlaws crew-chief, Kevin Lovey, from Canada.

“I haven’t been more excited about a season in a very long-time and a lot of that comes from our preparations and the new crew chief that we have on-board,” enthused Anderson. “Due to being a small team and work commitments, we’ve always found it difficult to commit to World Series, but with Kevin [Lovey] joining the team, it’s going to allow us to get out on the road a lot more and it’s a very exciting time for our team.”

As part of wanting to be a consistent front runner, Anderson is shooting for his breakthrough World Series round victory. In the past, Anderson’s best round result was a second place finish in the opening round of the 2009/10 season at Brisbane International Speedway in Queensland.

“If everything falls into place, there is no reason why we cannot challenge for round wins,” said the VIC # 37 Wagga Mobile Cranes & Heavy Haulage supported Foster driver, who aside from his WSS Championship commitments will contest all the other major race meetings on the season calendar. “We’ve been right up there for a number of round wins in past seasons but just fallen short for one reason or another, but this season we want to make it happen and get into victory lane.”
