Layfield Wins at WCS

From Wayne County Speedway

Orrville, Ohio (August 27, 2011) Exciting racing was the theme of the night for The Dzugan Fire and Rescue kids night. The packed grandstands were treated to great door handle to door handle dirt slinging action in all divisions. The pits were nearly overflowed with 111 cars signing in.

In the 410 Winged Sprints it was Medina, Ohio’s Andrew Palker and Shawn Hubler who lead the field to at the drop of the green flag. Palker who won last week’s feature jumped out front of the field, he was being chased by Hubler, Chris Myers and Wes McGlumphy. It was clear early cars were passing through the field as 9th starting Andre Layfield and 19th starting Kenny Jacobs were moving forward at a blistering pace. Layfield used the highside around the track to pass Jason Dolick and Myers then set his eyes on Palker. Before the lap was completed a caution would fly thus negating the two positions that Layfield made. At the drop of the green Palker again jumped out front but Layfield didn’t waste any time as he powered past Dolick and Myers. As Layfield caught Palker he again used the high side and flew past Palker to take the lead. Palker climbed up on the wheel did not give up and came back and passed Layfield setting up this epic battle for the lead. Layfield pitched in turn three hard under Palker making the pass, but again Palker didn’t give up he sliced back under Layfield as they came of turn four and dragged raced down the front stretch. It looked like Palker would make that pass on the inside but Layfield hammered down up against the guard rail and then rode the cushion to complete the pass and put a little distance on Palker. The red flag flew for Duffy Smith who flipped in turn 3 on lap nine, Smith was ok but his car was not able to continue. Kenny Jacobs who was running in the top ten would also retire with flat tire. The racing would resume with Layfield on the point. He was being chased by Palker, Myers, 8th starting Broc Martin and Danny Mumaw. Martin making a late race push was able to slip past Myers for third. At the checkered it was Layfield winning his second feature at WCS this season. He was followed by Palker, Martin, Myers and Mumaw. Winning heat races were Palker, Myers and Martin
