ADA, Oklahoma (Sept. 18, 2011) – Gary Owens was in the right place at the right time and took advantage of all that to win the Oklahoma State Championship sprint car race at Oklahoma State Park. The event was part of the Oil Capitol Racing Series.

Increasing rain impacted the end of the event, as did a late-race crash.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the rear wheel positions on the OCRS cars. Goodyear developed a right rear tire specifically for the OCRS program.

The race was scheduled for 25 laps but when a caution period slowed the proceedings 14 laps into the event, race organizers were faced with a steadily increasing rain and decided the next two laps would end the race. Fred Mattox, who was trying to earn his first career OCRS win, led the start of the final lap but flipped his racer on the final straight and bounced to a stop about 25 yards short of the finish line.

Owens zipped by to take the win. Jamie Passmore was second, followed by Whit Gastineau, Danny Smith and Matt Sherrill.
