(Perris, CA, September 29, 2011) T-Shirts by Timeless is the latest sponsor to sign up for the 2nd Annual “Legends of Ascot Match Race” during the 16th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals on Friday, November 4th, at Perris Auto Speedway. The Timeless sponsorship takes the winner’s share of the 16-lap race past $8,000.00.
The race will match the top two drivers in points from the Amsoil USAC/CRA Series and the top two in Amsoil USAC National Series who accept the challenge. There will also be one wild card driver. They will contest four, four lap races and the driver who accumulates the most points will take home the big money. If the race were to take place today, it would match four-time USAC National Champion Levi Jones of Brownsburg, Indiana, defending Budweiser Oval Nationals Champion Chris Windom of Canton, Illinois, three-time Amsoil USAC/CRA Champion Mike Spencer of Temecula, California, Matt Mitchell of Yorba Linda, California and the wild card driver. However, there is one more race in each series for a driver to get in. This Saturday, October 1st, for the USAC National Series at Lawrenceburg, Indiana and the October 8th race at Perris Auto Speedway for the USAC/CRA Series. Heading into Saturday’s race at Lawrenceburg, Jon Stanbrough is only 25-points behind Windom and could steal that spot. Heading into the October 8th affair at The PAS, Nic Faas, who won the main last Saturday, is a mere 9-points behind Mitchell.
“The races at Lawrenceburg this Saturday and October 1st at The PAS, are going to be very interesting to see who gets in,” Perris promoter Don Kazarian said. “With the purse now more than $8,000.00 for the winner, that is over $500.00 per lap for the Legends of Ascot Match Race. These guys will be racing hard just to get in.”
