After being rained out following one of two qualifying sessions on Thursday, Craig Dollansky and the Big Game Treestands #7 team returned to The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Friday for a big day of racing as they completed qualifying for Saturday and then continued with the originally scheduled Friday program.
Afternoon showers were once again in the area and the race program was slightly delayed. Once the track as worked into shape Dollansky powered the Karavan Trailers Maxim to 2nd fastest for Saturday qualifying and then carried that speed into Friday’s program as the 4/10-mile oval provided some great heat race action. Starting from fourth, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ used the extreme highside to motor into second on the opening lap and then put on a great battle for the lead, a position he claimed in the final corner of the final lap. An inversion of six put the Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance Products #7 outside of row two for the 6-lap dash event where Dollansky bettered his starting position by one for the main event.
When the 30-lap A-Main got underway the Aggressive Hydraulics backed sprinter ran fourth after a caution with one lap in the books and charged around Jason Meyers on the double-file restart to reclaim third before another stoppage on the fifth circuit. After a red flag for Ian Madsen on the ensuing restart, Dollansky battled with teammate Sammy Swindell around the halfway point as both worked past Greg Hodnett to hold third by a lap 17 caution and red flag for fuel. When action resumed and laps winding down, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ raced with Swindell for second as both Big Game sprinters zoned in on leader Donny Schatz. Unfortunately a caution with 2 laps to go would halt all momentum for Dollansky and with the highside being the preferred line on double-file restarts Jason Meyers raced by on the ensuing restart as Dollansky took the checkered flag in 4th.
The Big Game Treestands #7 team gets back on the gas tonight at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. Tune into SPEED at 8 PM eastern for LIVE high-definition coverage of all the action that unfolds during the final night of the 2011 World of Outlaws season.
