Port Royal, PA — (January 14th, 2012) — The two biggest races of the season for the All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car series will be at Port Royal Speedway in 2012 as part of the just released tentative 2012 Port Royal schedule of events.
The 2012 Port slate boasts some 25 events for the popular 410 sprint car division with three appearances by the All Stars including the April 28 Bob Weikert Memorial and the 45th annual Tuscarora 50, an event in itself that could net one driver more than $30,000.
The 2012 Port Royal season opener is slated for Saturday, March 17 at 6 PM, featuring the 410 and 358 sprint cars.
The popular super late models will be returning to Port Royal for nearly 20 shows during the new season.
The late model slate is highlighted by a trio of special events including twin 15’s over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, a special championship race in July and in the popular 9th annual Butch Renninger Memorial on September 1.
The pro stocks, appearing some 16 times, will take center stage in the 12th annual Deryl Stong Memorial on May 19. Several enduro dash races are also planned along with appearances by the super sportsman, ARDC Midgets, 305 and 358 sprint cars.
The two-day Tuscarora 50 All Star sprints weekend slated for September 7 and 8 as part of the 158th annual Juniata County Fair will be the All Stars Eastern Region Finale events for the circuit.
The All Stars Eastern Region champion will again garner a hefty $20,000 payday in 2012 and that money coupled with the always lucrative Tuscarora 50 payoff could end up producing a payout to one driver in excess of $30,000 if the winner of the 50 happens to also be the Eastern Region points leader at the end of the race.
Plus, all the Port Royal races will play a key role in determining who will be the overall All Stars national champion by the time the season finally comes to an end for the travelers, worth another $20,000.
For the second year in a row, the wildly exciting wingless USAC sprint cars are scheduled to appear for the first time ever at Port Royal, on June 9.
As such, Port Royal is again slated to crown the USAC Eastern Storm series champion after a nearly weeklong stretch of racing in the East by the fearless, wingless warriors.
One of if not the most anticipated shows of the season at Port Royal in 2011, the maiden voyage by USAC to the track was rained out.
Another highly anticipated show at the track in 2011 was just the second-ever visit to the oval in history by the URC Sprints.
And that band too will attempt to again race at the track in 2012, slated as part of Open Wheel Madness on August 25.
The track will honor the late Smokey Snellbaker, a three-time sprint car track champion in the 1970’s, with the Smokey Snellbaker Classic as part of the annual Keystone Cup series in May.
Other popular events returning to the track in 2012 include the Living Legends Dream Race, PA Speedweek and Fan Appreciation Night. Several new promotional nights have also been added to the schedule.
