FREMONT, Ohio – Diversity…something different, along with several BIG shows highlight the 2012 schedule for the 61st season at the historic Fremont Speedway.
“We understand our top priority is providing entertainment and excitement to keep our loyal fans interested and bring in new fans to racing. Our 2012 schedule does all of that,” said Fremont Speedway Promoter Rich Farmer.
Competing nearly every Saturday will be the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints, Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints and the Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks, but look for other divisions to make appearances throughout the summer.
The schedule is highlighted by six appearances of the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars, including three $10,000-to-win events. The All Stars have competed 99 times at “The Track That Action Built” during the series’ history – second only to Eldora Speedway. The UNOH All Stars will make their 100th and 101st appearance at Fremont on Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 26 (Kear’s Speed Shop Night) and Sunday, May 27 (Bud Light Night). The Sunday even will pay the feature winner $10,000 and has a rain date of Monday, May 28. The UNOH All Stars make two stops at Fremont during the 30th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek – Wednesday, June 27on JLH General Contractor Night and the finale, Saturday, June 30th a $10,000-to-win event on Fort Ball Pizza Palace Night. The fan-favorite Jim Ford Classic weekend featuring the UNOH All Stars will be Friday, Sept. 14 for All Pro Cylinder Heads Night and the $10,000-to-win finale on Saturday, Sept. 15 for Ludwig Propane Night.
There will also be a special weekend event with Fremont Speedway and Wayne County Speedway coming together for the first ever Summer Sizzler. On Friday, Aug. 10, Wayne County will host the first leg of the inaugural event with a $2,500-to-win affair. Then on Saturday, Aug. 11, Fremont will host the Auto Value Group Night 305 verses 360 sprint race with the 410 sprints part of the Summer Sizzler. The 410 sprints will compete for the $2,500-to-win purse, but as a bonus, if the same team wins at Wayne County and at Fremont that weekend, there is a $2,000 bonus!
The ground-pounding American Late Model Series returns to “The Track That Action Built” on Saturday May 5.
Traditional (non-wing) sprint car racing will highlight Fremont’s schedule on Roots Poultry Night, May 12. If the same driver can win the winged 410 sprint feature and the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) non-wing sprint feature that night, there will be a bonus!
Coming off its most exciting season, the Kistler Racing Products Fremont Attica Sprint Title (FAST) Championship Series has 10 events at Fremont Speedway. The series, in its fourth season, has 10 races at both Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway with a separate point fund from that of both tracks, with the FAST champion taking home $10,000!
The 13th Annual 305 Sprint Invitational – one of the largest purses in the nation for that division – will have a family fun theme to it. Besides the 305 sprints racing on Gressman Powersports, Level Performance Night, Sunday, Sept. 2, the ladies Powder Puff Dirt Truck event will be held. And kids…get your legs in shape because there will be bicycle races on the legendary one-third mile clay oval. There will be age classes with the younger division racing on the front stretch and the older division making a lap around the track!
The track’s 61st season will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 6 with a “run-what-you-brung” event. “If it has four wheels and a roll-cage, we will find a division for you to compete in. There will only be safety rules…no tire rule, no body rules, no engine rules,” said Farmer.
“We will have a few events open to front-wheel drive cars in the season…we need an entry level division to keep fans excited about racing,” added Farmer.
Also in 2012, there will be several “Family Pack” nights where mom, dad and two kids can get into the races at an affordable price along with tickets for hot dogs.
“I’m sure we will have several special events like the Australian Pursuit, the King of the Hill…other twists to keep the fans entertained,” said Farmer. “There will also be our fourth annual Hall of Fame Induction Night…the Hall of Fame has been a big hit among our race fans and is drawing interest from around the country.”
