Las Cruces, NM (March 13, 2012) – The most prestiges
305 Sprint Car race in the United States is only a few days away and
the word is out that some of the biggest names to ever sit behind the
wheel are on their way to the Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las
Cruces, New Mexico.
Once again piloting a Casey Mink’s owned machine Bartlett, Tennessee’s
Jeff Swindell will make his second appearance at the ASCS 305 Sprint
Car Shootout. Taking the preliminary night win in 2011, the former
ASCS/World of Outlaws regular will again try for the $5,000 payday but
the local hero’s may be the least of Swindell’s worries.
Fresh off a pair of podium finishes with the Lucas Oil American Sprint
Car Series presented by MavTv, Albuquerque, New Mexico’s Johnny
Herrera will also be making his second trip to the “City of the
Crosses” with a 305 under the hood. Very familiar to the Southern New
Mexico Speedway, Herrera’s last victory at the Southern New Mexico
Speedway came in 2011 with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series
presented by MavTv.
Also joining Herrera from the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour will be
current point’s leader and two time National Champion Jason Johnson.
With the next Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race scheduled for March
23rd and 24th at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, all
roads from the Lucas Oil ASCS season opening swing in Arizona lead
past the Southern New Mexico Speedway.
Continuing the list of racing royalty will be 2008 All Star Series
Points Champion Dale Blaney. Piloting a car for Baughman Motorsports,
the former Kings Royal Champion will be making his first visit to the
Southern New Mexico Speedway in a 305 Sprint Car.
One driver rumored to be in attendance is Danny Lasoski. If confirmed,
the former World of Outlaws Champion will also be in a Casey Mink’s
Motorsports entry.
Regional drivers making their way to the ASCS 305 Sprint Car Shootout
include Lubbock, Texas racers Brandon Black, Leighton Crouch, and
Preston Peebles along with Amarillo, Texas hot shoe Derrick Drown.
Drivers from Kansas and the Midwest are also expected to make the
trip.
Local drivers expected to be in attendance include inaugural Shootout
champion John Carney II and reigning champion Wes Wofford along with
Royal Jones, Dylan Harris, Lorne Wofford, JR Patton, and Kyle
McCutcheon just to name a few.
In its third installment, the ASCS 305 Sprint Car Shootout will
feature two nights of racing with the preliminary night awarding
$1,000 to the winner and the finale paying out $5,000 to the weekend’s
champion.
Happening Friday March 16th and Saturday March 17th, the ASCS 305
Sprint Car Shootout will also feature the MSD Ignition Limited X-Mods,
Late Models, and Hornets. Both night of racing are scheduled to begin
at 6:30pm with gates to the grandstands opening at 5pm.
Admission on Friday March 16th is $10. Admission on Saturday March
17th is $12. Kids 10 years and younger will be admitted into the
grandstands free of charge.

Cruces at the Southern NM State Fairgrounds. Take exit 132 of I-10,
turn left over the interstate, turn right on the south frontage road
