PEORIA, Ariz. (May 21, 2012) – Auto racing has long been a traditional part of Memorial Day weekend, and there will be plenty of high-powered racing action at Canyon Speedway Park this weekend as the track presents the Inaugural Salute to Indy on Saturday and Sunday.
Both full nights of racing action, each firing off at 7:00 p.m., will be headlined by the wingless Sprint Cars of the ASCS Canyon Region, with other classes mixing it up atop the 1/3-mile clay oval including Pure Stocks, X-Modifieds, Southwest Mod Lites and ASCS2 Micro Sprints.
With three wins five ASCS Canyon Region events thus far in 2012, including a March 24 score at CSP, Charles Davis, Jr., leads the wingless Sprint Car forces into the weekend double. Davis, Jr., currently holds an 86-point advantage over Bruce St. James in the championship points race, with R.J. Johnson, Andrew Reinbold and Michael Colegrove rounding out the current top five.
Three-time and defending ASCS Canyon Region champion Jeremy Sherman reached victory lane in the most recent series outing at CSP, the Canyon Clash on April 28, with Josh Pelkey coming off a May 12 triumph at Arizona Speedway.
With three nights of action in the book, Joe Vlasity is atop the Pure Stock point charts with an eight-point advantage over Jeff Carter. The balance of the top five includes Chris McCurdy, Jr., Jody Henderson and Ryan Ruiz. The Pure Stocks have offered up three different winners thus far at CSP in 2012 including Brandon Parker, Matt Martinez and Larry Price.
Jake Johnson is two-for-two in X-Modified action and holds the point lead over Jason George, with John Foster, Chris Caldwell and Cody Miller filling out the top five.
Tony Martin and Brad Weiss have been victorious in Southwest Mod Lite action at CSP, with Josh Castro gunning for his third consecutive ASCS2 Micro Sprint score after wins on March 24 and April 28.
Tickets to Canyon Speedway Park’s Inaugural Salute to Indy are just $15 for adults on both Saturday and Sunday, with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available each night for $20.
