June 29, 2012 – Kerry Madsen is gearing up for the month of money. After two top ten finishes in Dodge City last weekend, he has gained a spot in the World of Outlaws standings up to eighth. Tonight the WoO tackles the 5/8-mile high banks in Belleville, Kansas before heading to Kansas City and the Lakeside Speedway tomorrow night.
After qualifying ninth on Friday night at Dodge City, Kerry finished fourth in the heat. Starting outside of row six for the feature, he advanced to an eighth place finish. “It was a reasonable night,” he says. “We weren’t spectacular, but we moved forward and got a top ten out of it.”
Saturday’s finale started with a good time trial, and after a good run in the Dash, Kerry found himself outside of row two to start the main event. “We were second quick, which was pretty cool,” he says. “We ran fourth in the Dash. We bumped wheels with Sammy (Swindell) early. He ended up getting a flat, and we actually had a little bit of damage.”
The result would see him checker seventh. “We were a little disappointed,” says Kerry. “You hate to give up positions like that. I think we were a little better racecar than seventh, but all in all it was a reasonable weekend to run seventh and eighth.”
The St. Mary’s, New South Wales native continues to gain momentum. “We need to keep moving forward,” says Kerry. “We’ve gained a position in the points, and hopefully, we’ll keep that.”
Kerry is pumped for the next two nights in Kansas. “I’m pretty excited about going to Belleville,” he says. “We won an All Star show there back in 2009. As far as Kansas City, the fans have always been awesome there.”
Two new additions to the team are making day to day operations easier for Kerry and crew chief, Rob Hart. “We have a big month coming up,” says Kerry. “Starting Tuesday, at Huset’s (Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota), we are gearing up for it. We have some exciting things going with our motor program. We’ve got Shane Bowyers on board. He’s got a streak of Outlaw championships he brings with him, having worked with Jason Meyers the last two years and (Donny) Schatz before that. We also have Tony Barkman as well.”
Time is flying, and the big shows are coming up, ending with the Knoxville Nationals the second week in August. “We’re feeling like we’re getting pieces of the puzzle put together, and I’m really excited about the next month,” says Kerry. “We have Pete (Gavranich) one of the owners coming in next week, so we’re excited about that. Pretty much all the work we do all year is geared towards this little spot.”
