Perris, CA — (June 30, 2012) — The PAS Senior Sprint Car Series will cross the halfway point of it’s first full season on July 4th at Perris Auto Speedway. Joining the Seniors on the triple header program will be the Amsoil USAC/CRA and the California Lightning Sprint Cars. In addition, the biggest and best fireworks sky concert in Riverside County will take place at intermission. Spectator gates will open two hours earlier than normal for the holiday show at 3:00 PM and the first race will be at 6:30.
The Senior Sprint Car Series is for drivers 45-years of age and older. Besides the safety rules, the only other major rule is all cars must be powered by a cast iron block 360 cubic inch engine. No tire, gasket or weight rules. It is an old school “run what ya’ brung” type of racing.
“We are very happy with the Senior Sprint Series,” Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said. “They, along with the California Lightning Sprints are a fine compliment to the USAC/CRA show. The competition is great and it give guys an opportunity to race without a ton of pressure on them.”
Through the first four races of the nine event season, Brian Williams of Newport Beach and Ventura’s Bruce Douglass each have two victories on the famous Riverside County clay oval. Douglass sits on top of the championship point standings and carries a nine-point lead over defending champion Bill Badger, who resides in Santa Clarita, heading into Wednesday’s event. Williams is third in the point standings with Simi Valley’s Victor Davis and Yorba Linda’s Wiley Miller rounding out the top five in points. Only 30 points separates Douglass from Davis and Miller who are tied for fourth.
“This class is growing around California,” Kazarian said. “They first started it in Ventura about ten years ago and then we brought it to The PAS for a few shows last year. We like the job they did and made them a regular part of our show for 2012. Now they are debuting at Santa Maria on Saturday.”
“There are more and more guys getting into this,” the veteran promoter stated. “It is kind of like the PGA Senior Tour. Some former pro racers are in it. Then there are some guys who for one reason or another never did it before, but now is their chance. I hope some of the regulars from Ventura will drop in and see what they can do against The PAS regulars on July 4th. Come on down guys and race with us. Lets see what you got!”
Saturday’s show will feature an on track autograph session where fans can meet, pose for photos and get autographs of all of the drives including the Senior Sprint chauffeurs.
Fans who live more than 100-miles away from the track can watch the race live on the Circle Track Network. http://www.circletracknetwork.com/ Those who live within the 100-mile black out radius or anywhere else can watch it “On Demand” 24-hours after the final checkered flag.
The entire 2012 PAS schedule is listed at the end of this release.
