July 16, 2012 – Halfway through the Pacific Northwest trek for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series, Brady Bacon already has a pair of top fives. After an eighth place showing in Great Falls, Montana, he picked up a fourth and fifth at the Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon Friday and Saturday. This week’s action starts Thursday in Banks, Oregon at the Sunset Speedway before moving up the coast for a two-night shootout Friday and Saturday at the Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington.

Last week’s action started Wednesday at the Electric City Speedway in Montana. A third place finish in the heat put Brady in a starting spot outside of row six for the feature. “In Great Falls, the track was really dry all night,” he says. “We struggled a bit in the feature until it started taking rubber about ten laps in. We got really fast at that point. If it wasn’t for a caution, I think we would have got up there really good.”

The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver would come home eighth at the checkers. “After (the rubber was down) it was kind of single-file,” he says. “We had to settle for where we were running. I got mixed up with a lapped car and got passed by (Brad) Loyet. Other than that, we were decent at that point.”

After a day off, the series assembled in Lebanon, Oregon on Friday to tackle the bullring. Brady would advance from fifth to second in the heat to put himself in the redraw. “They’ve really turned that place around,” he says of the facility. “It is 110% better than it used to be. It’s great to see someone investing in a racetrack like that. It’s really nice. The track was pretty dry, but we were pretty good in the heat.”

Drawing a starting spot outside of row four, Brady adjusted to the racing groove that the track lent and started his charge. “They sprinkled the top of the track a little before the feature,” he says. “That made things good on top. I waited just a little too long to get up there, but once we were, we were really good.”

He would checker fourth and lock himself into Saturday’s finale. “I couldn’t really see (winner) Wayne (Johnson), so I don’t know if we were better than him, but we were better than most people,” says Brady. “We were able to move up through there and slide people to pass them.”

Brady would draw a six for Saturday’s finale. “Saturday was pretty much the same track,” he says. “It was good around the top. We got a little too tight. We thought the bottom may come back in. The cushion just got a little tough to run.”

A fifth place run was the result. “We were pretty good,” says Brady. “We had some cautions and a red come out, and we could never really get a groove going. We were just way too tight.”

So it is off until Thursday, but Brady has some good digs! “We’d like to thank Village Green in Cottage Grove for putting us up,” he says. “It is really nice here.”
