Cody Conquers Williams Grove

PETERSEN MEDIA

– Saturday night is his native Pennsylvania, Cody Darrah picked up the Summer Nationals win at the Williams Grove Speedway marking his first win of 2012.

“It feels great to finally be on the front stretch,” said a jubilant Darrah to the jam-packed crowd gathered at the historic facility.

Darrah who hails from Red Lion, PA kicked the night off by timing in 11th quickest of the 4 entrants on what was a lightning fast surface following rain showers on Thursday and Friday.

After winning his heat race, Darrah found his Ollies Bargain Outlet/Sage Fruit/Team ASE entry on the front row of the dash alongside local star, Gerard McIntyre.

Darrah’s second place finish put him on the front row of the feature, on what was shaping up to be a tacky, yet racy surface for the 30-lap shootout.

Starting on the front row, Darrah wasted no time grabbing the lead, as he was able to overtake McIntyre heading down the backstretch on the opening lap.

Once in front, Darrah was simply dominant as he worked the cushion on the ½ mile track.

The only thing that slowed Darrah was seven caution flags, but those seemed to help out the Kasey Kahne Racing driver.

“I really needed the race to play out the way it did without lapped traffic,” he said. “Everything kind of worked in our favor tonight, so I’ll take it.”

Darrah was never seriously challenged as he motored to his first win of the season at the same venue he won his first career World of Outlaws race at back in 2009.

“I’m just thankful that Kasey Kahne continues to back this team, and let us get out here and race nightly,” said Darrah. “This team is awesome and I’m just having fun right now.”

Sunday night, the Kasey Kahne Racing/Schroth Motorsports/Maxim checked into the Lebanon Valley Speedway in New York looking to back up the Saturday night win.

Timing in fourth fastest, Darrah had mechanical issues in his heat race, and his KKR team was forced to change engines before the feature event.

With a low car count, Darrah would still make the feature and would line up in the eleventh spot.

Darrah put together a very strong feature event as he quickly worked his way up to the fifth spot and hounded Logan Schuchart for the fourth spot.

Darrah tried what he could to get under Schuhart numerous times, but came up short and settled for fifth.

“This car is awesome,” Darrah said. “We had some engine woes early, but my guys got it taken care of and put a great racecar under me.”

Earlier in the week on Tuesday night, Darrah and his team were in action at the Lernerville Speedway for the Don Martin Memorial featuring the twin 30-lap features.

In the first main event, Darrah was involved with Brad Sweet in an early race spin, and he ended with a 21st place finish.

Finishing the first feature a lap down, Darrah started the second feature behind the inversion in the 21st spot and ended the night with a 17th place finish.

ON TAP- Cody and his KKR team now head to Canada for a weekend of racing. In 2011, Darrah broke into victory lane for his sole win of the season on this trip.
