Lake Odessa, Michigan (Tuesday, July 24th, 2012): The famed ½ (0.500) mile high-banked dirt oval of I-96 Speedway, which has laid dormant throughout the 2012 racing season will come back to life for two of the biggest events of the season coming up on a special Tuesday night, August 7th and then again three days later on a special Friday, August 10th.

Up first on Tuesday, August 7th will be the first ever appearance in the state of Michigan by the Super DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds Series as I-96 Speedway will serve as hosts for these wild exotic machines in a grueling 100-lap Feature in Lake Odessa, Michigan!

Then on Friday, August 10th, the United States Auto Club (USAC) AMSOil National Sprint Car Series invades Lake Odessa, Michigan for the first time in 16 years as Tickets are On Sale for the USAC AMSOil National Sprint Cars Series invasion on a special “Flashback Friday.”

The Super DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds Series will be led into Michigan by Two-Time Defending Series Champion Matt Sheppard as well as the legendary Seven-Time Series Titlist Brett “The Jet” Hearn, Four-Time Series Champion Danny Johnson, Two-Time Series Champion and 2011 Runner-Up Billy Decker, the premier Big-Block Modified tour in the Northeast will make their farthest haul West in the series’ 37-year history and will take on the big 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked dirt oval. As an Added Bonus and joining the Super DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds Series will be a special Pro Stocks / Pro Trucks Invitational as these machines will make their first appearance since the 2003 season when the Pro Stocks division was a weekly class. The rules for this special Invitational are simple; If you’re a Pro Stock / Pro Truck or Sportsman at your track, you’re legal for this invite, please bring your home track rule book. In addition, if you’re a UMP Street Stock that wants to come out and join in on the fun, those machines are welcome as well.

Finally the only weekly division within the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) DIRTcar Racing Series that will be a part of this event will be the Accurate Engines UMP Modifieds who will also climb up to the big 1/2 mile for their first of TWO Shows on the big track in just three days for an action packed and historic night of mid-week racing in the state of Michigan.

For this very special event, the Pit Gates will open at 2:00p.m. (an hour earlier than a weekly show) to accommodate the travelers coming in. The USAC AMSOil National Sprint Cars Series features superstars such as 2011 National Champion, Levi Jones out of Swansea, Illinois driving for NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart and Tony Stewart Racing will lead the field onto the big 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked dirt oval. Jones has reeled off four titles in the past two years and is tied with Mel Kenyon and Rich Vogler with seven National crowns, four behind A.J. Foyt’s record of 11. Foyt owns seven National Championships in Indy cars, three in Stock Cars and one in Silver Crown. Jones has two Silver Crown titles in addition to his five in the Sprint cars.

Marc Cassella won the last USAC Sprint race on the dirt in Michigan in 1996, a 30-lapper at I-96 which has hosted the series five times. Jack Hewitt won three of those and is one of only two drivers to record multiple USAC wins in Michigan in 25 previous appearances. The other is Eric Gordon, who also won three features.

Michigan has proven to be one of the most unpredictable states in USAC history. IN 25 races there, 21 different winners have emerged! Jud Larson won the inaugural at Berlin Raceway in 1959 and Clauson won the most recent, also at Berlin in 2010. In all classes, a total of exactly 100 different drivers have won USAC races in the state of Michigan.

Joining the premier non-winged sprints cars tour in the country will be three of the weekly divisions within the UMP DIRTcar Racing Series as the Accurate Engines UMP Modifieds, Rudd’s Septic Service UMP Street Stocks, and Smyrna Bar & Restaurant UMP Sport Compacts will also be in action.

The next racing action at I-96 Speedway for the UMP DIRTcar Racing Series is on Saturday, July 28th as the Accurate Engines UMP Modifieds will headline the card and will be going extra laps for extra cash as their 30-Lap Feature will pay $1,500 to win and $150 to start.

Also racing will be the Rudd’s Septic Service UMP Street Stocks, Smyrna Bar & Restaurant UMP Sport Compacts, and Spectator Drags.
