August 1, 2012 – A year ago, Brandon Wimmer underwent serious back surgery, putting things in doubt for him. Today, he is just about ready to get back out on the track after a long road to recovery that included setbacks and complications. He is planning on taking in the Knoxville Nationals next week, and is making plans to get back on the track soon.
The Fairmount, Indiana driver wanted to reach out to the many fans who have extended “Get Well” wishes to him. “There have been a lot of concerns for me, so I thought it was good to let people know I’m o.k. and I’ll be back racing soon,” says Brandon. “It was about a year ago, that Dr. Trammel did the surgery on my back. I have to thank all of the people who have wished me well.”
Getting over the surgery was one thing. Most of that was over during the winter. But last Spring other complications arose. “I had some trouble in May and June,” says Brandon. “I had two different nerve blocks from swelling in the area. I had surgery for those. And then the medication I was on caused some stomach problems that landed me back in the hospital last month.”
After some corrections with medications, Brandon is now nearing full recovery. “I’m doing better now,” he says. “I’d like to get in something by the end of the year, but I’ll definitely be back racing next year. I went to the doctor last week, and he said everything was looking good.”
Brandon wants everyone to know that his back is back to normal. “The back is back to 100% now,” he says. “A lot of the problem I had this year was with my stomach from the anti-inflammatory. I was on them a couple months, and that screwed my stomach up.”
