Stewart, OH — (August 24, 2012) — One of the largest crowds in recent years turned out to honor a very special lady as part of “The Sarah Bond Big Three” in memory of Sarah Bond, wife of long time Ohio Valley racing legend Ronnie Bond. Cole Duncan, Lockborne, OH claimed the win in the 30-lap Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association main.
”’The sprint car field saw cars from across the Buckeye State, Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Australia. Jack Lee drove one of Danny Smith’s mounts into the 18-car feature while B-main winner Christopher Bell in the Rick Ferkel’s 0 quickly became a fan favorite.
Former All-Star Champ Greg Wilson, Benton Ridge, OH was on the move, but caught one of the infield tires and nearly flipped. The incident left his mount disabled at a time when Davis had just started to lap the back markers and distance himself from a hard-charging Duncan.
On the restart Duncan stuck to Davis like glue, Davis at one point put two cars between him and Duncan, but the persistent youngster stalked Davis several more circuits to lap 19 when Duncan dove under Davis in turn three for the race-winning pass.
Andre Layfield kept Danny Smith and Kory Crabtree at bay the entire race, but one of the best battles of the night was a mid race dual between Crabtree and Christopher Bell. Crabtree impeded Bell’s run from the back of the pack, but Bell, Norman, Oklahoma was the hard charger moving up ten positions from 16th to 6th. Bell had earlier charged to the front to win an exciting B-main which also saw Kody Kinser come from the tail to second.
Kinser was equally impressive in the feature with a 17th to 10th place run after tearing off his front suspension in the heat. Although every car was fast and passing was at a premium, some drivers such as Bell and Kinser had the right set-up to advance to the front.
Duncan blitzed on to the uncontested win over Davis and Layfield. Rounding out the top ten were Danny Smith, Kory Crabtree, Christopher Bell, Dave Dickson, Keith Baxter, and Kody Kinser. Greg Mitchell, a flip victim last week, was second fast qualifier with a 12:97 behind Duncan’s 12:89.
