September 6, 2012 – Brady Bacon heads to a pair of familiar bullrings sans the wings as he will compete with USAC at the I-30 Speedway near Little Rock, Arkansas and the Riverside International Speedway (aka “the Ditch) in West Memphis, Arkansas. The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver spent last weekend in Dodge City, Kansas with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series where he registered a fifth and sixth place finishes.

Saturday night saw a rough start, as Brady had to drop out of his heat after starting on the pole. “We have a motor that has a little oil overflow problem,” he says. “Every once in awhile, it will puke some out of the breather. The way the air is flowing, it sucks it right off the headers. It makes a little fire on the headers and it must have been quite a bit of oil. It made me a little nervous. I thought it might be something more serious.”

The DNF put Brady outside row five of the B. He rose to the challenge. “We were able to get up to third and that started us 19th in the A,” he says. “We were able to work up to sixth. The track was definitely different on Saturday night. It was real spotty. There were some good spots in the middle and on the bottom, and a lot of guys were running up top.”

Brady did well to move up the thirteen positions. “It was a good racetrack really,” he says. “You could run where you wanted, but you had to hit your marks really well. You could make up a lot of ground. I think everyone was happy with the track on Saturday.”

The heat run in Sunday’s finale was a good one that saw Brady cruise from seventh to second. “The track was already slicker in the heat on Sunday that it was for Saturday’s feature,” he says. “The car was really really good in the heat. We were closing in on Danny Wood at the end of it. We were happy with that.”

Brady drew a six for the feature, putting him in row three. “We made a few changes,” he says. “I think everyone thought it would rubber up pretty quick. They moved the tires in a little bit and there was some moisture down there. It was almost a little too greasy to run down there. It did hold off the rubber for a while and there was decent racing.”

Brady held his own and ran fifth. “Brian (Brown) got out there in the lead and took off,” he says. “I passed a few cars on the bottom. There were some in the middle. It was just hard to make up ground. There were a few cars that could. We were able to finish fifth, so we were pretty happy with that.”

All in all, it was a good weekend that saw a rough start. “We were happy with the sixth too, considering we were starting tenth in the B,” says Brady. “If I could work on my redraw ability a little bit, we would be better.”

The Brady Bacon Racing #99 team is excited about this weekend. “We’re looking forward to it,” says Brady. “It’s always fun to get the wing off and run with USAC. We’ll be hitting a couple of tracks that those other guys haven’t seen.”
