(Perris, CA, September 11, 2012) The championship point standings will have a much different look when the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars Series returns to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, September 15th, for the Glenn Howard Memorial. While four-time defending champ and current point leader Mike Spencer remains a fixture at the top, there has been a big shakeup just behind him. In addition to the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, The PAS Senior Sprints and California Lightning Sprints will also be part of the triple header show. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.
Temecula’s Spencer, who turned 31-years-old earlier this month, carries a massive 303-point lead in the season long standings heading into Saturday’s race. Huntington Beach star Nic Faas had been second most of the season. However, mechanical ills sidelined Faas before the main at Route 66 Motorplex in Victorville on August 19th and the team did not make the trek to Calistoga on Labor Day weekend. Thus, he now finds himself back to fourth. Brody Roa, a 21-year-old from Buena Park, has climbed to second in the points. Contesting his first full season of 410 Sprint Car racing, Roa scored his first ever USAC/CRA main event win at Cocopah Speedway in Yuma on June 2nd (Media, attached to this release is a photo of Brody Roa. Please feel free to publish the photo and please give photo credit to Doug Allen).
Third in the standings heading into Saturday’s race is recent high school graduate Ryan Bernal of Hollister. The 18-year-old, who also races Midgets and Winged Sprint Cars, won his first ever USAC/CRA race at Route 66 Motorplex race four weeks ago. He liked that victory so much, he made it two in a row at Calistoga on September 1st. Those two wins have propelled him to third in the points standings, 11-markers behind second-place Roa. In addition, his two victories make him the only driver other than Spencer (who has won seven) to have more than one USAC/CRA win this year.
Faas if fourth and only seven points in back of Bernal, while another of the upcoming youngsters, 21-year-old Austin Williams of Yorba Linda, rounds out the top five. Williams has a win this year at Santa Maria Speedway.
At the last race at The PAS on August 18th, Ventura’s Cory Kruseman, the 2006 USAC/CRA champion, won his 49th main at the track. That is two more than any driver. National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Rip Williams of Yorba Linda is second in all-time wins with 47. Williams and Kruseman are ranked sixth and seventh respectively in the standings heading into Saturday’s event.
Fans who live more than 100-miles away from the track can watch the race live on the Circle Track Network. http://www.circletracknetwork.com/ Those who live within the 100-mile black out radius or anywhere else can watch it “On Demand” 24-hours after the final checkered flag.
Adults tickets for Saturday’s are $25.00. Seniors get in for $20.00. For active military members with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 it is just $5.00. Children 5 and under are admitted free.
The entire 2012 PAS schedule is listed at the end of this release.
