Making his debut at the Eldora Speedway, Rico Abreu charged from dead last during the USAC National Midget feature to score a seventh place finish during the Four-Crown Nationals on Saturday night.
The night started off great for the St. Helena, CA driver, as he timed his Keith Kunz Racing/Toyota TRD/Bullet Chassis machine in fourth fastest with 18 cars checked in for the prestigious event.
In heat race action, Abreu settled in the fourth spot, as he rain the high-side of the high banked ½ mile track. On the last lap of the heat, Abreu expired a power plant, and was forced to pull down a backup car for the feature event.
By pulling down a back up car, the California was forced to tag the rear of the start-studded field on the very racy track.
When the green flag fell, Abreu quickly began working his way forward, as he buried his right-rear tire on the thick Eldora cushion as he raced just feet away from the famed wall at the speedway.
Abreu slid his way forward as he was able to score a seventh place finish as the checkered flag flew on his first Four Crown Nationals.
“It was a pretty solid night overall for us,” Abreu said. “I was able to come from the back to get seventh, and my teammate, Kyle Larson, was able to win from mid pack. It’s a testament to how strong the Keith Kunz team is, and how good these cars are night in and night out.”
Rico and his team would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, Toyota, ButlerBuilt,, Outlaw Wings, and Petersen Media for their partnership.
ON TAP: Rico will now head back to California and compete at the Silver Dollar Speedway for two night of action this Friday and Saturday ngiht.
