Brisbane, AU — (Oct. 16, 2012) — Reigning POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series champion Andrew Felker will make his debut in the POWRi Australian Speedcar Super Series Saturday at quarter-mile Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway.
The 19-year-old from Carl Junction, Mo., will be a teammate with CJR Motorsport regular driver Jason Bell in the opening round at Archerfield and second round on Oct. 27 at Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba, also located in the state of Queensland in eastern Australia. Felker will drive a Mopar-powered Brekka prepared by CJR, headed by team principal Colin Bell.
It will be the first time Felker has traveled out of the United States.
“I’m excited,” he said. “It will be a cool experience. I definitely want to go and represent POWRi well. It will be fun getting the series known in Australia.”
Danny Felker, Andrew’s father and crew chief in POWRi National Midgets, will also make the trip Down Under.
“I’m sure he’ll work on the car with the Bell team,” Andrew said.
Felker had a breakthrough season in winning his first POWRi National Midget title. He won his first feature at Peoria (Ill.) Speedway on May 19 and his second at Wilmot (Wis.) Raceway on July 14. Felker had a total of six top-fives and 15 top-10s and started the feature in all 29 events in 2012.
The event at Archerfield will also be the first under POWRi sanction for the Australian Speedcar Super Series.
Alex Bright, a 21-year-old from Collegeville, Pa., is also going to race at Archerfield and Charlton. He’s the only other American in the field which includes defending series champion Mark Brown and former champion Nathan Smee.
