Sydney, AU — (October 20, 2012) — Matt Smith has claimed a thrilling Speedcar A-Main in the opening round for the 2012-2013 Sydney Speedway Track Championship. Tony Abson romped home in second place and defending track champion Anthony Brien coming in third place.
It was an interesting A-Main with Anthony Brien having a major spin going into turn one on the first lap of the 20 lap feature. He was lucky to be able to continue through the A-Main and finish with third place.
After the first caution on lap one Tony Abson tried to pull away from the rest of the field only to be passed by Matt Smith into turn three and four around the outside. Matt Smith continued to pull away from the field to win the opening round and takes the track championship lead into their next event on the 24th November.
In the Late Model’s A-Main it was a family affair with Ross Nicastri taking the feature win over his son Ben Nicastri followed closely by Dave Robertson. The race started off with a spectacular flip from Robert Carrig. He was OK after three barrel rolls.
Brett Mitchell took out a very exciting street stock A-Main with Kevin Blackley and Jay Davey to round out the podium.
The litre sprints A-Main was taken out by AJ McTaggart, with Scott Lewin taken second place and Darren Salmon coming home in third place.
The next event on the Sydney Speedway calendar is next week October 27th with the Australian Microsprints Championship and the mighty Sprintcars as well as the AMCA Nationals, Legend Cars and Super Sedans
