Perris, CA — (January 15, 2013) — Don Kazarian, the promoter at “Southern California’s Home to Major League Sprint Car Racing,” Perris Auto Speedway, has announced a brand new sprint car division tailored towards grooming young drivers for a career in racing. The new division will be comprised of drivers from 14-21 years of age in cars powered by cast iron block 360 engines. The series will be named, “The PAS 360 Young Gun Sprint Car Division.” The new class will have six races beginning on April 6th and culminating on September 14th.
“Bill Perkins of The Sprint Car Driving Experience approached me about it a couple of months ago,” Kazarian said. “I went to the insurance company and they just approved it. The insurance company is satisfied that we can judge talent before allowing them on the track to compete.”
In addition to grooming drivers to move into the USAC/CRA Series in the future, it will also allow drivers to gain confidence racing against other drivers of the same ability.
“This will allow young drivers to build their confidence up rather than feeding them to the lions,” Kazarian said. “Over the years we have had some young drivers come out, race a few times and disappear never to be heard from again because they were intimidated and not ready to compete with stars of USAC/CRA. This will give them seat time at a more comfortable level. By the time they are ready graduate to the USAC/CRA Series, they will be a lot more relaxed and confident.”
All of the new divisions races will share the bill with the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the PAS Senior Sprints. The California Lightning Sprint Car Series will also be competing at four of those shows.
Details of the new series are listed below:
