Warnambool, AU — (February 23, 2013) — Queensland Wingless Sprint champ Dan Moes added the national title to his list of achievements as the 27 year old sped from position nine in tonight’s 30 lap Heytesbury Stockfeeds Australian Wingless Sprint championship at Sungold Stadium. The speedy Queenslander led home Victorian Sprintcar star Brett Milburn with popular local Jye Saunders in third following a dramatic conclusion to the championship final.

As the white flag flew Moes was third behind race long leader Darren Mollenoyux and defending champion Todd Wigzell before Wigzell made a play for the lead in turn 1 on the inside of Mollenoyux when the pair made contact sending Mollenoyux careering into the wall and out of the race.

Despite rolling around under caution at the head of the field with a green white chequer finish pending, Wigzell was excluded from the event deemed cause of the incident.

Moes who had sped past Milburn, Jack Lee, Adam Butler, David Eggins and finally Saunders to be in third was clearly on pace with the leaders but had given them too much of a start as the white flag was displayed however his fortunes changed very quickly.

Moes would cross the line a jubilant winner finishing ahead of eighth starting Milburn while Saunders maintained third ahead of 20th starting Damien Meade who raced to fourth.

Fifth home was David Eggins while Andy Hibbert charged from 17th to sixth by race end.

Seventh home was Jack Lee followed by Rhys Baxter, Sam Wren, Stephen Bell, Trent Martin and Matthew Balcombe.

Non finishers included Mollenoyux and Wigzell along with Sam Louttit, Daniel Storer, Charlie Brown, David McKay, Butler and Tom Payet who got upside down only four laps into the final.

Wigzell and Mollenoyux squared off on the front row and after one aborted start Mollenoyux jumped to the lead with Wigzell clearly keeping pace. Despite his best efforts, Wigzell couldn’t find a way past the leader who was doing everything he could to keep the car straight and ahead of the challenger.

With a good run coming off turn four to get the white flag, Wigzell bumped the tail of the leader as they crossed the flag stand and drove to the inside in turn 1 before the contact was made and both Mollenoyux and he were eliminated from the event.

Meanwhile Andy Hibbert romped to a new race record in the B-main finishing ahead of Payet, Bell and Mead who all advanced to the back of the A-main. Jeff Judd, James Wren, Daryl Clayden and Troy Little were just some of the notables who didn’t get out of the B-main.

West Australian Daniel Keen won the C-main ahead of Joel Chadwick as both advanced while Gary Bell, Jason Bates, Jarman Dalitz, Michaela Dumesny and Dan Dubois were some who missed a transfer.

The D-main saw Sean Dicker and Jake Smith advance while Scott Elst missed a transfer by one spot along with the likes of Brad Herbert and Corey Pretlove who got upside down when Cody Atkins misfired at a restart on the main straight.

The E-main was taken out by Peter Green with Ray Klemm also advancing while Michael Keen was one spot shy of advancing.

Wigzell had earlier won the A1 Dash earning him the right to start on pole position as he defeated Mollenoyux, Saunders and Eggins.

Winning the A2 Dash would see Moes start the A-main from ninth ahead of Rhys Baxter, David McKay and Sam Wren.

Other Dash winners included Stephen Bell (B1), Mikayla Hein (B2), Joel Chadwick (C1), Sean McKeever (C2), Glenn Watts (D1), Scott Elst (D2), Aidan Corish (E1) and Michael Keen (E2).
