Taking part in the Lone Star Regional season opener at the Kennedale Speedway Park, Matt Convington showed early that he will be a series title contented as he scored a third place finish.
Pulling a very high pill to open the night, the Glenpool, OK driver went from his seventh heat race starting position to score a third place finish, and put his T&L Foundry/Triple X/Brodix backed No. 95 in the night’s top-eight re-draw.
As fate would have it, Covington pulled the seven pill, lining him up in the fourth row of the feature event.
Hitting the loud pedal for the feature, Covington slowly worked his way forward as he reached the third spot by the seventh lap.
With Seth Bergman leading, Covington hounded second running, Kevin Ramey for the latter part of the race hoping to advance a step on the podium.
With both drivers working the bottom of the speedway, Covington was never able to get the opening he was looking for, and settled for third at the stripe.
“It’s early in the year, but it was a great way to open the series points wise and finish wise,” he said. “After our first weekend, it was awesome to be standing on the front stretch. I can’t thank my guys, and all the people who allow us to get on the track enough for their support.”
Matt and his Covington Racing team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winter, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2013.
2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-3, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2
