Dubbo, AU — (April 17, 2013) — The running of the $10,000 to win Digger’s Cup will be fought out this Saturday night (April 20) at Morris Park Speedway in Dubbo, Central Western NSW, and it’s attracted some of the country’s finest Sprintcar drivers.
Without doubt, the biggest event on the season calendar for Morris Park Speedway, which offers $10,000 to the winner and a total prize of over $30,000, drivers from around the state and a number of interstate entrants will be in attendance.
Headlining the entry list of 30 plus entrants is the country’s best Sprintcar driver in current Australian Champion and World Series Sprintcar Champion James McFadden. The Queensland–based youngster has been the standout drivers over the past two seasons and is looking to add the Digger’s Cup victory to his list of achievements. McFadden has only competed at Morris Park Speedway on one previous occasion: the World Series Sprintcar Championship round of the 2011–12 season.
Defending Digger’s Cup champion Robbie Farr certainly isn’t travelling to Morris Park Speedway to make up the numbers. The recent winner of the Australian 360 Sprintcar Title in Western Australia is a short odds bet to make it back to back Digger’s Cup wins.
Six–time Australian Champion Garry Brazier returns to Morris Park Speedway and is aiming to get into victory lane, and nothing less. After finishing second in last season’s Digger’s Cup behind Farr, Brazier is hungry to go one spot better and claim the $10,000 winner’s cheque. Brazier will be joined by his teenage son and Sprintcar rookie Jordyn. The 17 year old will be making his first appearance at the Morris Park Speedway track.
Apart from the Braziers, there is going to be a number of other family connections contesting the Digger’s Cup, which includes Sydney based brothers Roddy and Toby Bell-Bowen, and Riverina based youngster Jackson Delamont, who made his Sprintcar at Morris Park Speedway two seasons ago, will be competing against his grandfather Harry Delamont for only the second time in his career, and cousins David and Matthew Craft from Sydney. Robbie Farr’s dad, Dennis, will be making a return to racing, and is looking forward to his Morris Park Speedway debut.
Jeremy Cross and Mark Blyton are the two local drivers who are very keen to get into victory lane. With local knowledge on their side, both Cross, who was last weekend’s feature race winner at Sydney Speedway, and Blyton are not to be discounted. Blayney based Steve Lynch is another driver to be considered as a local.
World Series Sprintcar Championship competitor Steve Caunt is another driver aiming to finish the season with a strong result at the Digger’s Cup.
Drivers travelling from Sydney include Adrian Maher, James Thompson, Darryl Campbell, Rod Bright, Blake Skipper, Max Johnston and Jamie Matherson. Other out of town drivers are going to consist of Eddie Lumbar from Deniliquin, Ian Burrows and Danny Hogan from Goulburn, and Will Newton from Grafton.
Making up the interstate contingent will be Brent Aprile from Queensland, youngster Jake Tranter from South Australia and Tim Rankin from Victoria. The latter will be guest driving in the NSW # 75 Maxim normally driven by Sydney’s Glen Saville.
The format for the Digger’s Cup will be three rounds of heat races for each driver, B-main and a feature race.
Support classes will include Production Sedans and Junior Sedans.
