Big Game Motorsports Rallies for Mixed Results at Eldora Speedway

From Inside Line Promotions

ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 7, 2013) – It was a weekend at both ends of the spectrum for Big Game Motorsports.

While Big Game Treestands backed Sammy Swindell said he had one of his worst weekends at Eldora Speedway, teammate Craig Dollansky nearly picked up a record-setting World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory in his Eyecon Trail Cameras car during the Outlaw Thunder doubleheader at the famed half-mile track.

In Friday’s feature, Dollansky led laps nine through 16 as a tire issue began to surface. Eventual winner Kerry Madsen took the lead just after the midpoint of the race and held off Dollansky amidst traffic in the closing laps.

“We got the lead and about 12 to 13 laps in I thought we were getting a flat left rear tire,” he said. “The car was just laying left hard, and I was concerned about making the 30 laps, but in the end we came home second with the car in one piece.”

Dollansky’s runner-up finish in his Eyecon Trail Cameras car earned him his fourth podium of the season. His next win will move him into a tie for 10 th place on the all-time wins list.

Swindell was on the other end of the scale on Friday, when he qualified 32nd quickest and had a part break early in his heat race – sending him into the wall exiting turn four. The team opted to skip the Last Chance Showdown and use a provisional to tag the back of the main event.

“We were just trying a different motor combination there and it didn’t quite pan out,” Swindell said after finishing a season-low 20th. “And then we had the other problems in the heat race. It wasn’t a good day, but we turned it around there the next night and was quite a bit better.”

The Big Game Motorsports drivers each qualified in a spot to put them on the front row of a heat race on Saturday, but both finished third to miss the dash by one position. That relegated Swindell to start 14th and Dollansky 16th in the 30-lap feature.

“In the middle of the pack is always a hard place to be at Eldora,” Swindell said. “The car was too tight for the start of the race. After we got to run a few laps, then we gained back what we lost and a few more at the end.”

Swindell rallied to place 10th, recording his 11th top-10 finish of the season. Dollansky finished 11th – one spot away from his 11th top 10 of the year.

Swindell ranks fifth in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings – only 30 points out of the top three – and Dollansky is seventh in the points.

The Big Game Motorsports drivers will compete with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series in the inaugural FVP Outlaws at Elko Friday at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minn., and Saturday at the Mediacom Shootout at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
