A rough start to the 2013 season has undoubtedly frustrated Matt Mitchell, but the Yorba Linda, CA driver put the past behind him as he picked up his first win of the season Saturday night during the URA event in Victorville, CA driving for Bobby Ferro.
“It feels great to be back in victory lane,” Mitchell said. “We have had some rotten luck, and it is nice to put a complete night together.”
Making his second stint in the Ferro No. 91, Mitchell kicked the night off by timing in seventh quickest during qualifications.
A second place finish in his heat put Mitchell on the pole for the feature event.
“We had a pretty good car all night, and I was hoping I could get the jump and navigate traffic with no issues,” he said. “They way my season has been going, that was no easy task.”
Getting a monster start, Mitchell was dialed in, and looked to be tough at the Southern California track.
Out front, Mitchell was untouched during the feature, as he hit his marks, and had no serious issues while navigating through traffic.
Running a great race, Mitchell was able celebrate his first win of the season, in only his second start with the veteran car owner.
“I cannot thank Bobby Ferro enough for the chance to drive his car this weekend,” Mitchell said. “We ran together earlier this year and were pretty good, so to pick up the win for him is pretty awesome, and hopefully I can keep this momentum rolling and pick up another one next week.”
