Ian Madsen took on the World of Outlaws this past weekend, and a late flat tire knocked him out of a top five on Friday night, before struggles plagued his night at the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night.

“We were plenty fast on Friday night in Elko, MN,” Madsen said. “Unfortunately we had a tire go down on us late in the feature running fourth, and we had to pull off. Saturday we just struggled all night at Knoxville.”

Kicking his weekend off at the Elko Raceway in Elko, MN on Friday, Madsen opened the night up by timing in his Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply backed entry in 9th quick, putting him on the front row of his heat race.

A second place finish in his heat, put the Royal Flooring/Greenland Homes of Iowa/Stepping Stone Genetics machine in the second row of the dash, where a third place finish lined him up in the second row of the feature event.

When the feature went green, the New South Wales native was able to hold his own on the dirt covered pavement track, as he ran in the top four, chasing after brother Kerry, and Chad Kemmenah.

Working in the light rubber that had been laid down on the bottom of the speedway, trouble broke for the Australian pilot, as he lost a left rear tire, knocking him out of contention, and he wound up with a 13th place finish.

“Friday we were really good, but unfortunately we lost a left rear late in the feature that knocked us out of a possible podium finish,” he said.

Saturday night the KCP Racing team was back in action at the Knoxville Raceway, again with the World of Outlaws.

“Overall we struggled Saturday night, but our main focus this year is the Knoxville points so at least we learned a few things,” he explained.

With 51 cars on hand, Madsen’s 21st quick qualifying effort, put him well behind the inversion, as he found himself starting in the third row of his heat race.

Madsen’s struggles showed up in heat race action, as he wasn’t able to get his mount moving forward, and a seventh place finish put him on the front row of the night’s B main.

Bad luck arose in the B, and Madsen ended up with a 23rd place finish, and took a Knoxville provisional to make the feature event.

Starting 26th in the feature, Madsen rode around, and wound up scoring a 20th place finish.

“I’m not really sure what our issue was,” he said. “We just were not very good every time we hit the track, but in racing, it happens. The best thing to do is learn from it, and move forward.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Team Kline Electric, Logan Contractors Supply, Royal Flooring, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Stepping Stone Genetics, Quality Traffic Control, Factory Kahne, Rider Racing Engines, JRS Excavating, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Smith Precision Products, Moose Blocks, Speedway Motors, Watson’s Express Transport, and Kustom Concrete Pumping for their support.
