SANTA MARIA, CA – MAY 14, 2013… When the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars battle at Tulare’s Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway, several bonuses will be available. The bonuses, issued by USAC, USAC/CRA, and series sponsors are set to encourage more racer participation and a larger fan base to the May 18th event.
The United States Auto Club (USAC) will pay $200 for the longest tow to Thunderbowl Raceway. Given the current costs of diesel fuel and travel, this will help to offset some of the expenses.
Hoosier Tire West is offering a brand new HTW Right Rear Tire to the highest finishing 360 powered car. The HTW is the legal tire for USAC/CRA, USAC Western Classic, and the USAC National Sprint Car Series.
Out of state cars will not have to pay an entry fee at Saturday’s event. The USAC/CRA purse is $2,500-to-win and $300-to-start.
Local 360 iron-block powered Sprint Cars are welcome to race with USAC/CRA. Per series rules, 360 iron-block powered Sprint Cars can run their local track or series approved Hoosier tires on all four corners. Cars must pass a tech inspection, meet race track muffler rules, and one-way radios are mandatory for drivers. USAC/CRA charges a $25 entry fee to all competitors, which includes a transponder rental. Aluminum block 410 powered cars must run either a Hoosier HT2, HTW (105x18x15), DT3, or F55 Right Rear tire. Visiting cars are also eligible to participate in USAC/CRA’s Contingency Program that awards sponsor certificates to fast time, heat race winners, semi-main winner, hard charger, and positions in the main event.
“The Demon” Damion Gardner leads the point chase and will battle a talented roster of drivers including Nic Faas, 5-time Champion Mike Spencer, Bud Kaeding, “The Cadillac” Cody Williams, Austin Williams, Brody Roa, Matt Mitchell, “The Ripper” Rip Williams, Ryan Bernal, “Super” Rickie Gaunt, “Dynamite” David Cardey, Seth Wilson, Richard Vander Weerd, Jace Vander Weerd, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr., “The Bakersfield Bullet” Rusty Carlile, and more.
Tulare’s Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds at the corner of Bardsley and K Streets. The action packed card will also feature the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars. The Front Gates will open at 5:00pm, Hotlaps is 6:00pm followed by time trials, and Racing at the lightning fast 1/3-mile clay oval is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm. Advance tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling the track office at (559) 688-0909. For more event information, visit the track’s website at www.tularethunderbowl.com.
