Greenville, MS – May 26,2013 – The stage was set as the USCS Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars rolled into the confines of Greenville Speedway for the second round of Sprint Car Speedweeks. The black gumbo clay took a pounding as 35 sprints took to the ¼ mile bullring billed as the fastest in Mississippi. The line up was divided into 5 Heat races and the action never stopped The feature was set thru the heat races based on passing points from the heats. 14 positions were locked in as the 17z of Zack Pringle took the first heat, Second Heat winner was # 9jr Derek Hagar, Third was won by Terry Gray from Bartlett Tn with a close finish over teammate #10m Morgan Turpen. The heats continued as former Modified driver Casey Rowland #C4 took the fourth heat and heat 5 showed Saturday nights winner Tim Crawley #88 with the checkers.
Two 10 lap B-mains followed as the 12 of Dalton Davis The #40 of Raymond Stoll and the #25 of Ray Bugg transferred from the first B-main. The second B-main was filled with cautions but #26 Marshall Skinner, #28 Jeff Willingham and Rookie of the year contender Curt Terrell made it into the feature. The field of 22 cars should #13 Taylor Tidmore and 3h Brandon Hanks tagging on the rear taking advantage of their USCS Provisional.
The feature rolled on the track with the #17 Cody Gardner leading the way but the caution flew as the #40 spun. Gardner then took to the point and looked strong as (jr Hagar dogged him for the first spot. The field ran clean and green but Hagar never let Gardner out of his sight. Lap 13 saw a lead change as Hagar showed his strength bringing the 3a of A.G.Raines with him on lap 14. The action was hot and heavy as stong racing occurred through out the field. Tim Crawley #88 was picking off positions from his 6th starting spot and steadily moving towards the front. Lap 17 saw #47 “the Carolina Kid, Eric Riggins spin in turn 4 to bring out the yellow.
Crawley wasted no time taking the lead on the next restart and held that position heading to the end of the race. The walls at Greenville Motor speedway got a work out as most of the field used the upper cushion and many times the wal to get thru the tight turns. The crowd was screaming as they witnessed some of the best drivers in the country tear up the black clay and jockey for position.
The “Crawdaddy” Tim Crawley looked like he had the win in the bag but the 9jr of Hagar had other thoughts. Hagar dove into turn 1 under Crawley on the white flag lap and stole the win from the 2012 USCS National Champion taking the win in the second round of the USCS Sprint Car Speedweek extravaganza.
Action continues on Monday night in Atwood, Tennessee at Clayhill Motorsports for Round 3. Don’t miss this one as the Sprint Car Speedweek points battle heats up.
