Watsonville, CA — (June 6, 2013) — The Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo continue a busy season this Friday night, with the eighth event for one of the West Coast’s top 360 Sprint Car divisions. Stockton’s Brad Furr leads the charge at John Prentice’s Ocean Speedway Watsonville, located on the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.
Six different drivers have visited victory lane in 2013 with Furr continuing to be the only repeat winner this season. Two-time series champion Tommy Tarlton added his name to the growing winner’s list last Friday night after locking horns with 2012 Ocean Sprints champion Shane Golobic.
Furr has been chased down all season long by Gilroy’s Kurt Nelson, who has kept the Taco Bravo-sponsored #72w entry within 35 points of the lead. Nelson gave up 20 points alone on opening night when he failed to finish the feature that was won by Furr. Since that event, Nelson has had an average finish of fifth place.
Other winners this year have included Auburn’s Andy Forsberg, Watsonville’s Justin Sanders, Bud Kaeding, and Golobic.
Another driver who has found himself near the top of the points heap this year is San Jose’s Ryan Rusconi, who has used quiet consistency to run third. His one blemish is a flip during the May 17th feature event in the #98 Dynicron Cylinder Heads entry.
Nick Rescino, Jr. of San Francisco is fourth in the standings tied with Salinas’ Jeremy Chisum. Chisum’s brother Jason is sixth and Fresno’s Koen Shaw has moved all the up to seventh in the points after a slow start to the season.
The balance of the top-ten includes Sanders, leading rookie Nick Foster, Jr. of San Jose and the second highest rookie Nathan Washam of Pleasanton.
Friday’s races for the Ocean Sprints also includes Four Bangers, American Stocks, and Wingless Sprints. Adult tickets are just $17 with seniors 65+ $16 and kids ages 6-12 are $15. The family pass for two adults and two children is value priced at just $55. Qualifying will get underway at 6 p.m.
