SANTA MARIA, CA – JUNE 18, 2013… This Friday, June 21st, the traditional sprint cars of the USAC Western Classic Racing Series (WCRS) will tackle the Stockton 99 Dirt Track. The event at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds will feature a $3,000-to-win and $400-to-start purse, making this one of the richest dates on the schedule. The action packed card will also showcase the popular Winged 360 Sprints and Spec Modifieds. The Pit Gates will open at 3:00pm, Spectator Gates will open at 5:00pm, Practice is scheduled at 5:00pm, with Racing set to begin at 6:00pm.
After scoring fifth in the WCRS-CRA battle at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway, Ryan Bernal of Hollister has a 54 point advantage over the competition. Piloting Keith Ford’s #73 Berry Pack / King Racing Products Spike, Bernal two feature wins, one Kaeding Performance / Racing Optics Hard Charger Award, and 53 feature laps led to his credit. The point leader has championship aspirations and will have his sights on Stockton’s $3,000 payday.
D.J. Johnson of Stockton is second in the point standings. Racing the family owned #33 Unique Breeds / Proplant Farm Services Eagle, Johnson scored fourteenth at Ocean Speedway. To date, the Wingless Spec Sprint graduate has one Saldana Racing Products / Rod End Supply Fast Time Award, one Kaeding Performance / Racing Optics Hard Charger Award, and two top-10 finishes in the campaign. Johnson will be looking to claim the $3,000 victory in front of his hometown fans.
Sitting third in championship points is Lincoln’s Tony Hunt. Driving Mike Phulps’ #56 Metal Works / Red Line Oil Maxim, Hunt placed seventeenth at the Watsonville main event. The defending series champion has two top-10 finishes on the season and will have his sights on claiming his first Stockton 99 Dirt Track victory.
Colton Slack of Brentwood is fourth in the point chase. Piloting the family owned #17 S&S Automotive / Vornhagen Body & Paint Maxim, Slack scored twenty-third after an early flip. With one top-10 finish to his credit, the rookie contender and his carbureted machine will be looking at taking home the $3,000 first prize.
Fair Oaks’ Shauna Hogg has climbed to fifth in the standings. Driving the family owned #5 Borello Racing Engines / Jerry Crowell Racing Shocks Eagle, Hogg used a provisional and ran twenty-second at Ocean Speedway. The veteran driver has two heat race victories and battled bad luck in the main events. This Friday, Shauna will be looking to rebound with her first main event win of the season.
Among the other top WCRS contenders expected to be in action are James Sweeney, Nathan Washam, Klint Simpson, Matt Streeter, Colby Copeland, Jim Richardson, Gordon Rodgers, Tanner Swanson, Max Adams, Scott Hall, Tom Baker, Marty Hawkins, and more.
The Stockton 99 Dirt Track is located on the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in Stockton, California at 1658 South Airport Way. Adult Tickets are $20, Senior and Junior Tickets are $15, Kids 10 and under are FREE, and Family Passes (2 Adults & 2 Kids) are $55.
