Atlanta, GA – (June 22, 2013) – The United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters www.uscsracing.com concludes its highly competitive USCS Sprint Speed Week 2013 mini-series at historic Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas on Saturday, June 29 at 7:30pm. The race entitled the 8th Annual “Rumble at the River” at the 1/4-mile high-banked gumbo clay oval was originally scheduled for June 1, 2013 but was rained out and has been re-scheduled for this Saturday night.
The race will be the final round of a four race mini-series at tracks located in a close proximity to one another in the Mid-South area. This event is also set to be race number fourteen on the season for the Nationally touring USCS sprint car drivers. The Riverside International Speedway event is expected to draw a large field of winged sprint car drivers. Drivers from nine states and from as far away as North Carolina entered the first three events. The first three USCS Sprint Speedweek 2013 events have averaged 32 cars per event and there’s no reason to believe Saturday’s event will be any less well attended.
Round #1 on May 25th at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, Mississippi saw defending USCS National Champion Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas grab his first 2013 season win. On the following night, 2006 USCS Rookie of the Year, Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas garnered his fourth win of the 2013 season at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Mississippi on Sunday, May 26th in Sprint Speedweek Round #2. Hagar continued his hot streak with his fifth 2013 visit to the www.rockauto.com USCS victory lane at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, Tennessee on Memorial Day Monday, May 27th. Derek Hagar has a scant four point lead in the Speedweek 2013 point standings over 2012 Champ Tim Crawley.
An action packed program awaits fans at Riverside International Speedway on Saturday night as the USCS presented by K&N Filters sprint car racing format will include test and tune hot laps followed by the evening’s first sprint car race, the Hoosier Speed Dash that showcases the top six cars from the previous USCS main event in an edge-of-your-seat six-car, six-lap shootout. Next up will be qualifying heat races followed by Last Chance/B-Main race(s). The evening’s grand finale will be the 8th Annual 30-lap USCS “Rumble at the River” winged sprint car A-main event.
The race will award USCS presented by K& Filters National Championship points as well as USCS Mid-South Thunder regional series Championship points. The USCS Mid-South Thunder regional series primarily consists of races in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and West Tennessee.
Just a few of the noted drivers who are entered include ten-time and defending USCS National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee plus the 2012 and defending National Champion, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas. Crawley leads the National point standings by nine points over Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas. Hagar is the USCS Sprint Speedweek 2013 points’ leader with a scant two point lead over Crawley. Hagar also tops the win list for the 2013 season with five main event wins. There have been four different winners in those nine main events.
Other entries who are in the top ten of the United Sprint Car Series National point standings are 2010 USCS Rookie of the Year Morgan Turpen from Oakland, Tennessee who is the only woman entered and ranks fourth in the National standings. 19 year-old Dalton Davis from Millington, Tennessee has won one main event and is is fifth in those National standings.
The 2008 USCS Mid South Thunder regional series Rookie of the Year Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, Tennessee is seventh in the standings. The 2012 USCS Rookie of the Year, Jeff Willingham from Ripley, Mississippi ranks eighth in the current standings. Veteran driver Ray Bugg from Iuka, Mississippi ranks ninth and Rookie of the Year contender Curt Terrell from Bartlett, Tennessee erod Roller rounds out the top ten in the National standings.
Also on the racing program are four of Riverside’s weekly Saturday night racing divisions including the Limited Late Models, Riverside Stock Cars, Open Wheel Modifieds and the popular 305 Winged Sprint Cars.
