Orrville, OH — (June 24, 2013) — Shane Stewart won the fourth round of Ohio Sprint Speedweek Monday night at Wayne County Speedway. Tim Shaffer, Danny Holtgraver, Greg Wilson, and Andrew Palker rounded out the top five.

Tim Shaffer (10th car out to time) set quick time at 14.772 seconds. Andrew Palker (8th car out) was second quick, followed by Byron Reed (9th), Shane Stewart (42nd), Rob Chaney (12th), Danny Holtgraver (15th), Dallas Hewitt (23rd), Brady Bacon (2nd), Cole Duncan (30th) and Cap Henry (5th). Jacob Allen broke his front end and got into the wall hard in qualifying, and scratched for the night. Duane Zablocki suffered motor problems in hot laps and scratched as well.

Sebetto spun before a lap could be completed in the 10-lapper. Dale Blaney shot out to the early lead. On lap two, Philo moved up to fifth, and on lap three he moved to fourth. Shaffer had a nice battle with Duncan and grabbed the last transfer spot on lap eight. Chaos hit on the white flag lap when Philo and Shaffer got together. Philo spun, and briefly collected Duncan. Meanwhile, Sodeman appeared to steam by for the fifth and final transfer. After the races, it was explained to me that the yellow was thrown after the first and second place cars had crossed the line, reverting the finishing order back to the previous lap, and handing Duncan fifth. I didn’t notice the yellow, nor did those sitting with me. More on this later.

Martin took the early lead ahead of fellow local Palker. Palker rode the rim to the lead on lap three before Williams stopped. The restart saw Palker ahead of Martin, Dave Blaney, Henry, Holtgraver and Smith who were battling for the final transfer. The duel was moot when Henry exited on lap nine. It’s been a tough week for Henry, who has been through two motors and was borrowing one from the 9x team.

J. Haudenschild led flag to flag. The battle was for the final transfer, with Henderson moving up nicely, getting by Helms for fifth, and then Reed for fourth in the last corner.

Larson shot out and pulled away to win easily. Stewart started in row three and charged to second. Spithaler brought the only caution with a lap four spin. Schuchart used the restart to drive under S. Haudenschild for the final transfer.

Reed led from start to finish in the 6-lapper with Stewart in tow.

I copied the B main lineup down on the pitboard after the heats and it included Duncan starting fourth, and did not include Sodeman. Apparently, that changed after I left. Sodeman tweeted that he was notified he was in the B as the B was staging. Wayne County Speedway tweeted that it was an All Star decision. Anyway, Hewitt shot out to the early lead in the 12-lapper. On lap three, Smith gained the fourth and final transfer from Sebetto. Bacon broke on lap six while running second and pulled in the infield.

Stewart shot out to an early lead in the 30-lapper and there was little doubt who the fastest car was. Palker shot around Reed for second. On lap five, Holtgraver moved by Reed into third. Holtgraver continued his charge on the low side by besting Palker for second on lap 13. At the halfway point, Stewart led Holtgraver, Palker, Shaffer, Reed and Chaney. On lap sixteen, Shaffer moved by Palker into third, and he moved around Holtgraver into second on lap 19. Helms flipped over the turn one rail with four laps to go bringing the red flag. He was uninjured. Stewart had two lapped cars between himself and Shaffer and won easily. Larson was fun to watch the second half of the race, and moved up fifteen spots to sixth.
