August 20, 2013 – Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team will return to Knoxville Raceway for the first time Saturday since his second place run in the Nationals on August 10.  The Grain Valley, Missouri driver competed with the World of Outlaws at the Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Nebraska last Tuesday and with the ASCS National Series on the Salina High Banks in Oklahoma Saturday.

You have always run well at McCool Junction, but it seemed the track conditions were a little different than you usually see there.

We decided to run at McCool with the Outlaws.  SLS (Promotions) always does a good job.  There was a big crowd.  The track was pretty narrow to start the night, and that’s usually not what we’re accustomed to there.  Usually, it’s wide and slick.

You were able to make the heat invert after time trials.

We didn’t lay down the best lap.  Maybe I left a little bit on the table, and we ended up twelfth quick.

You were able to finish second in the heat, which got you to the Dash and you finished tenth there.

The heats and Dash…really where you started was where you finished.  At that point, the track was just a lane and a half wide.  They tried to rework it, and maybe the feature saw the track two and a half to three lanes wide.

How did the feature go?

I tried to pass Sammy (Swindell) there for ninth, and ended up losing a couple spots.  The race ended up going non-stop, and we ended up twelfth.  It definitely wasn’t the run we were looking for coming off of the Nationals.

The High Banks of Salina have always matched your style.

Salina has always been a good track for us.  Going in, I don’t think we’d ever run worse than second or third there.  We drew a tough heat and started eighth.  We were able to get up to fourth.  It was kind of the same thing as Tuesday…it was pretty narrow.

You started thirteenth in the feature, and finished ninth.

Something was going on with our steering.  It was making it tough to steer.  I felt like an amateur at times out there.  I was all over the place.  We ended up ninth, which is obviously not what we were looking for.  I think we figured out the problem, so hopefully, that bug is off the list.  We’re really looking forward to taking our car to the Jackson Nationals here in a couple weeks (August 30 and 31).

You can concentrate on Knoxville this Saturday night.

We wanted to keep the steam going from the Knoxville Nationals, and we had two results this week that we weren’t really happy with.  We’ll keep plugging away at it.  Definitely, we’re looking forward to going back to Knoxville Saturday for Season Championship night.  We’d like to put one more win on the board there.  There’s definitely a huge point race going on, and maybe we can go steal some thunder and get the win.  It’s always good to run Knoxville, no matter when it is.
