Kokomo, IN — (August 24, 2013) — Dave Darland does not own Kokomo Speedway. However he is the master of the track as he took the 40 lap victory in the USAC “Smackdown 2” Saturday night.

Darland started outside of the front row and lead all 40 laps. The 71p went to the top side of the track to nobody’s surprise and set sail, never looking back. Chase Stockon, who started on the pole, dropped back to 3rd early on following Chad Boespflug with Brady Bacon and a fast closing Shane Cottle in tow.

Tenth starting Cottle was on a tear again tonight, charging into 2nd on lap eleven. Cottle, also running the high side, was gaining ground on Darland for a few laps but Darland maintained a sizable lead the remainder of the feature.

A caution at the 25 lap mark for a stopped Gary Taylor slowed action but on the restart, Darland didn’t miss a beat, jumping back out front. Bacon, Stockon and Chris Windom were battling for position late in the race with the final top five, Darland, Cottle, Stockon, Windom and Bacon.

Winners of the three qualifying races were Scotty Weir, Shane Cottle and Chris Windom. In the second qualifier, the 41 of Hunter Schuerenberg took an ugly spill into the turn two fence. Schuerenberg was not injured.

King of the Hill resulted with Stockon taking the pole and Darland outside front row. Daron Clayton won the B main.
